From humble beginnings as the Takoradi Learning Centre in 1998, the school has grown and carved a niche for itself as an example of successful international education in the Western Region of Ghana. Now the Takoradi International School provides for pupils from Kindergarten to Year 11.

About Us

The School

Takoradi International School (TIS) formerly Takoradi Learning Centre was founded in1998 to provide a world class education for an international group of children. The school follows the British National Curriculum. It is also an affiliate member of the Association of International Schools in Africa. It is fully accredited to hold the Cambridge International Examinations in the secondary school. Takoradi International School accepts children from 3 years to 16 years old. Class sizes are small which allows for individualized attention to each child.

Statement of Belief

Takoradi International School believes that children are born with unique potentials that should be cultivated for holistic character and intellectual development. We recognize the crucial role parent’s play in the development of their child and believe it is essential to build a relationship based on mutuality, trustworthiness and co-operation between our school and parents. We also believe in imparting in our children the knowledge to enable them to accept the ever-evolving world as an interdependent global community where each individual is recognized as an equal member of the human family.

Mission Statement

As an international school, we work towards establishing a learning environment which demonstrates unity in diversity by honouring, stimulating and challenging each pupil’s spiritual, social, physical and intellectual capacity; nurturing them to develop healthy relationships of trust, respect, courtesy, tolerance and honesty. We strive towards excellence by testing pupil’s creative and analytical thinking skills and their ability to transfer and apply these abilities to various situations. Academic Programme


Children in the nursery schools are taught National Numeracy and Literacy Strategy following the British National Curriculum. They are taught these together with Dance, Physical Education including swimming and creative development.


In the Primary school, children are taught the Key Stage 1 & 2 of the British National Curriculum. Core subjects taught by the class teachers are English, Mathematics, Science, Geography and History. Specialized classes are, French, Music, Art & Design, Design and Technology, Dance, Physical Education including swimming and Computing.


Students in the secondary school are taught by specialized teachers in several subjects including English as First Language, Mathematics, French, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Business Studies, Geography, History, Information & Communication Technology, Art & Design, Design & Technology, and Food & Nutrition. The school offers the Cambridge Checkpoint Examinations and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Science Lab

The school has a modern science laboratory fitted with a smartboard for science classes and experiments and a Food & Nutrition section which caters for IGCSE Food and Nutrition students.

Swimming Pool

Students have access to the swimming pool at the Africa Beach Hotel for their swimming lessons. They are transported to the pool in the company of their teachers. They are also supervised while at the pool by at least two swimming instructors

Art Room

The Art room has everything needed to teach students Art & Design and Design & Technology and students are encouraged to express their creativity.

Music & Dance

Plans for a multipurpose room for music and dance are underway for the students. To enhance the creativity of students, they learn to play the recorder, xylophone, keyboard and violin.

ICT Room

The school has a spacious ICT lab with internet access, educational software and other media eqiupment.


The School has senior and junior libraries to cater for both primary and secondary sections.


Admission Requirements.

Children from ages 3 to 16 are accepted into the school after an application form has been filled and students have been assessed to place them in the appropriate class.
